Grace ZOU

Grace is the founder of GEA Lawyers, who is gifted with four working Chinese languages and Dialets.

Grace legal career commenced in 1998 when she focused working in Migration Law, and AAT appeals. She has extensive and particular experience working with high net worth business and investor applicants from the People’s Republic o China and the Greater China Region. She has an outstanding track record of achieving visa grants for clients from complex commercial and investment environments.

Grace is an expert in resolving disputes in family law and commercial law in a timely and cost-effective manner and designs solutions without litigation where possible, and by litigating to successful conclusions where necessary, with the assistant of the GEA Commercial Team and guidance from a alliance of legal gurus in the legal industry.

Grace’s devoted clients expect and receive proactive and early advice which focuses on setting a clear and realistic resolution strategy. Her ability to get to the heart of a matter—regardless of complexity-at ‘Shenzhen Speed’ is one of her key strengths.

Grace mainly works in advisory role to GEA team leaders at the current stage of her career and she has devoted her skills working on governance of GEA and setting policies and directions of GEA Lawyers. Grace volunteers her time with various Chinese Communities by providing free legal advice to people in need.

Life before GEA

Grace started her career as a Sole Practitioner in Migration Law in Sydney for nearly 10 years, before she joined Sydney of City Lawyers in 2009, where she served for five years, before she established GEA Lawyers in Chatswood in 2014.

Claudia Chow

Executive assistant and financial controller of GEA Lawyers. Partner of TZ Accountants.

Claudia has obtained a master's degree in accounting from 2017 Macquarie University and completed the Australian CPA qualification examination in 2017. Claudia has carried out company registration and financial compliance counselling for many business immigrant clients of GEA Lawyers.

Claudia is a valued member of GEA Lawyers. Claudia’s professionalism, attention to details and dedication to the needs of her clients has meant she is well regarded by all clients who deal with her.

Derek Ip

Derek specialises in property and commercial law. He helps clients to navigate significant real estate transactions and developments in Australia. Derek acts for clients acquiring, developing and disposing of residential, commercial, retail rural and industrial sites. Throughout his career Derek has been involved with and advised on numerous major commercial complex. Derek also assists clients to establish appropriate structures for holding and developing various sites and developments.

Derek’s recent experience includes:

  • Developers: successfully advised on projects due diligence, acquisition, structuring, financing, subdivision and disposal of ~60 residential units development in Epping;

  • Industrial, office and retail: Assisting corporations with the negotiation of leases and agreements for lease for both landlords and tenants;

  • Private unit trusts: Assisting in relation to the acquisition of commercial complex ranging from $1.5 million to $48 millions; and

  • Hotel: Assisting clients with the acquisition and disposal of hotels.

Margaret FANG

Having been in Australia since 2001, Margaret came to study and subsequently earned a bachelor's degree in accounting from Macquarie University, a master's degree in international tax law from the University of Sydney, and a Juris Doctor in law from the University of New South Wales. Admitted to practice as a qualified solicitor since 2012, Margaret frequented NSW Supreme Court, Federal Court and Family Court.

Being well versed in Chinese and Australian cultures, and proficient in English and Mandarin, Margaret is well suited in navigating the complexity of all walks of people locally, in government departments, and provide professional advice to all clients including Chinese clients. Prior to joining GEA Lawyers, Margaret was involved in various complex and high-profile immigration and litigation cases with various stakeholders in immigration services with different objectives and nationalities all with different approaches needed for full resolutions.

Margaret is excited to be involved in serving the Chinese community and her drive, professionalism, understanding of the law, a strong service mentality as well as sensitivity of Chinese and Australian cultures, has won the respect and recognition from all her customers. Margaret is currently responsible for business immigration and various types of litigation work in GEA Lawyers.
